Pre-Construction

It's a official...our first house is ready to be built.

Monday we met with the builder and went over a bunch of blue prints. Some I understood...like the electrical ones. Other I didn't...like where the trusses go?!?! It was cool to see where the load bearing walls were, where all the outlets were going, how the foundation would be poured and most importantly...how the house would be laid out on the lot! That was cool and we got to meet our new neighbor and her son.

So now you're wondering...what does the house look like. Here are the fast facts:
1827 square feet
3 bedrooms plus a loft (we will convert it into a 4th bedroom down the road)
2 and half bath
2 car garage

Here's the first floor:The options we added were:
- 2 foot bump out, labeled 'breakfast bay'
- additional cabinets, little over 8 feet!
- kitchen island
- 9 foot, smooth ceilings
- increased the patio from 4x4 to 10x12

Here's the second floor:

The options we added were:
- garden tub with shower, kept the linen closet
- 2nd sink in master bath
- additional window in master bedroom

We upgraded the cabinets to a dark Maple color, appliances will be black, the counter top will be what is shown in the picture, the carpet - dark brown and the linoleum a slate Grey color. Here's one picture with the flash on and one without.

Here are the linoleum picks for the bathrooms. The one on the top went into the downstairs half bath (the kitchen pick is to the left of it), the middle one is in the 2nd bathroom and laundry room and the bottom one is in the master bath. Well it was fun to pick out everything and I can't wait to see how it all comes together. They should be pouring the foundation next week so look for weekly pictures. Last but not least...the house is in Durham. For some reason Durham is growing on us plus....Cookout is just around the corner. A total sign that we are in the right neighborhood!

I asked if the builders could have the bathroom doors open OUT instead of in. Gives you more room in the bath. Just a thought. If you ask them early enough there isn't an extra charge. :)
AND...LOVE the layout. The wide open room is great on the first floor...guess that is why it is the great room. hahahahah I crack myself up!

That is soooo exciting!! I'm excited to watch your house being built. And Cookout around the corner, I'm jealous, I could go for some hamburgers and a shake right now.
