Yup we got a $1600....WATER bill! $1651.96 to be exact for 2 months of service - someone in Brandon's office calculated that we would've had to use 2 gallons every hour to get a bill like this!
You always hear stories about someone getting a crazy bill like, $2,500 bill for 2 pizzas or my favorite $85,00 cell phone bill. (You can read more here.) But I never thought some thing like that would happen to us! It was our first water bill after moving into this place so I was expecting $40 maybe $50 at the most. But when I saw the amount I freaked out! I was actually worried because we are tying to buy a new home and my first thought was: are we going to have to pay this bill so we don't get a late charge on our credit than spend the next year battling with the City of Durham to get our money back?
Luckily Brandon called the next day and the City of Durham realized right away that it was an error. Apparently no one came to read the meter so the billing system just took the last reading and billed us from that. Unfortunately the last reading was when the meter was installed back in 2006!

Wow...I would've freaked too! "They" say you shouldn't leave the water running while brushing your teeth! Glad it was resolved so quickly!

I would expect that if you all had filled up our backyard pool for us.
